I must have inherited the interest for photography from at least two previous generations, but the hobby really took off at the turn of the century when I bought a Nikon F65 as a Christmas present for my then wife-to-be. Up until then I had managed perfectly well with my first camera but now got overwhelmed by the possibilities of a SLR system. It didn't take too long for me to acquire a second-hand Nikon FM2 and then, being a bit of gear fiend, going through several 35mm as well as medium format cameras in just a couple of years. My favorite subjects were bands performing in (too) dark clubs, but family life rescued me from that a few years ago.
Luckily the photography bug bit again, mostly thanks to the enthusiasm and talent of a colleague of mine. Nowadays I'm enjoying the benefits of a digital workflow, i.e. being constantly burdened by hundreds of disorganized images that should be post-processed, printed etc etc.
I've owned and used Nikons (both film and digital) and dozens of Nikkor lenses, Kievs, Hartbleis, Rolleicords and Rolleiflexs, Holgas and a Olympus rangefinder. Right now I use the Nikon D3 when I absolutely positively need the AF and good quality at higher ISOs and my sweet Leica M9 for everything else. I shoot street, rock shows, my kids and a wedding once in a while and I've dabbled with studio lighting.

I HATE IT WHEN I HAVE TO HUNT PEOPLE DOWN FOR USING MY PICTURES.
